Section 3. Definition and Purpose

Certification is a system of records, inspections, and standards which must be met by all certified seed producers. This includes stringent requirements on planting stock, land history, equipment clean-out, weed management, conditioning, sampling, and labeling to maintain varietal identity of improved crops. Each variety that is entered into this program has been evaluated for its unique characteristics such as pest resistance, adaptability, uniformity, quality and yield. Seed or seeds as used in these standards shall be understood to include all propagating materials.

The purpose of the CCIA is not only to certify seed but to engage in other activities to promote the production, distribution, and use of high quality seed.
